• A small reminder that’s easy to overlook…

I came across a post recently that really stuck with me, and I thought it was worth sharing here.

Someone reached out to a recruiter on LinkedIn and accidentally misspelt the recruiter’s name. Think Michael instead of Micheal.

She didn't get a response and spent weeks wondering what she’d done wrong. When the recruiter eventually replied, the reason was simple:

“If you can't spell my name correctly, I can't trust you to pay attention to details.”

Whether or not you agree with the recruiter’s response, the lesson is worth remembering.

As many of us here are networking, applying for roles, and reaching out to recruiters, it's easy to overlook the little things.

Don't assume someone’s name is misspelt just because it looks unfamiliar. Some names have unique spellings, while others include hyphens, apostrophes, or other characters that are part of the person’s identity.

      Before you hit Send:

      1. Double-check the spelling of the person’s name.
      2. Keep every hyphen, apostrophe, and special character exactly as it appears.
      3. Give your message one final proofread.

It takes less than a minute, but it shows respect, attention to detail, and professionalism.

What's one small detail you always double-check before sending a job application, email, or LinkedIn message?
